Emerald Coast Driving School is pleased to offer the Road Skills Exam in Panama City and Ft. Walton Beach!
All applicants are required to take and pass the Road Skills Examination prior to issuance of a driver's license unless the participant has successfully completed DELAP and has met all DMV requirements.
We only test in our cars. If you are looking to test in your vehicle, you will need to schedule your exam with the DMV.
Exam Requirements
You must be at least 16 years old. If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must have held a Florida learner's license for at least one year without any traffic convictions, and present parent or guardian certification that you have at minimum 50 hours of behind the wheel driving experience, of which 10 hours must be at night.

Emerald Coast Driving School will upload all passing scores into the DMV system and participants will be issued a driver's license at the local DMV office. Please be advised that the Division of Driver’s License reserves the right to randomly select participants for re-examination. “All applicants are subject to random selection for re-examination at the driver license or tax collector office prior to issuance of any license. Failure to pass the re-exam will require the applicant to pass the driving skills exam prior to license issuance. All passing applicants are not OFFICIAL licensed drivers until issuance of your driver's license from the DMV.
Participants are eligible to take the Road Skills Exam with a Third Party Administrator for a total of 3 times before being referred to the DMV. Re-test can only occur once in a 24 hour period. If a participant fails to pass the Road Skills Exam prior to the 5th attempt, the participant will be ineligible to retest for a period of one year. All applicants are REQUIRED to disclose previous failures to the Third Party Administrator. Re-testing fees are in addition to Road Skills Exam Fee. Road Skills Exam will not be conducted without correct submission and the additional payment of $20.00 for the retest fee.
We do not offer a REFUND for canceled or NO SHOW appointments. All reschedules are subject to a $35.00 rescheduling fee.
Please be prepared for the exam. Testing maneuvers are posture specific and a testing course will be driven. Automatic failures include:
- Failure to STOP at stop signs
- Excessive speeding
- Backing into or over a cone while exiting the parking space or during the parking maneuver
- Endangering the examiner where instructor brake would need to be engaged
- An accumulation of 30 points or more will yield a failure
These services are performed from the office testing location. Road Skills Exam Prep Exam Bundle can be booked by you online. These services are offered Monday-Saturday as our commitment to the community. This bundle is an in car opportunity to familiarize students with the necessary posturing and maneuvers for taking the road skills exam. This lesson includes road knowledge and basic car fundamentals. The instructor will demonstrate quick stop, reverse backing, 3 point turn, straight in parking and other basic skills required for passing the road skills exam.
STUDENT ADVISORY: Completion of driving Instruction with Emerald Coast Driving School does not guarantee the passing of the RSE-road skills exam with the DMV or any Third Party Administrator. *Students must hold a permit for 1 year from the date of issuance prior to testing, unless 18 years of age or older. All permits must be of plastic issuance for identification and NO PAPER PERMITS ARE ACCEPTED. Please collect your license from the DMV, as test results are purged after 30 days and will require a retest with applicable fee.
RANDOM RE-EXAMINATION: Emerald Coast Driving School as a Third Party Administrator advises the applicant and parent or guardian that the applicant may be selected for re-examination at the driver license or tax collector office.
*ALL APPLICANTS ARE SUBJECT TO RANDOM SELECTION FOR RE-EXAMINATION AT THE DRIVER LICENSE OR TAX COLLECTOR OFFICE PRIOR TO THE ISSUANCE OF ANY LICENSE. FAILURE TO PASS THE RANDOM RE-EXAM WILL REQUIRE THE APPLICANT TO PASS THE DRIVING SKILLS EXAM PRIOR TO LICENSE ISSUANCE.
